wine & fishing camp Ahr

… a short trip in harmony with nature

Participation in our Wine & Fishing Camps means a complete escape from everyday life. A short trip, in harmony with nature providing sensual enjoyment of fauna & flora. Together we stage the authentic and respectful preparation of caught fish around open campfire. Matured meat cuts from local cattle and locally hunted game also come on the fire.

The trip is accompanied by great Pinot Noirs and wine specialties from Weingut Meyer-Näkel,  one of the pioneers and flagships of German red wine culture.

Today this highly outstanding family wine estate with a worldwide reputation is run by the two passionate Enologists Meike & Dörte Näkel. Their father Werner revolutionized the German red wine culture in the 1980s with a completely new Pinot Noir style and an energetic urge for new projects in other countries around the world. The “Zwalu” project in South Africa and “Quinta da Carvalhosa” in Portugal are internationally recognised as one of the best on the market. You will also experience these great wines during the camp.

Our “Hedonistic” seafood table in the center of the picturesque vineyards of the Ahr offers an opulent intermezzo between fishing trips. The culinary evening big bottle tasting in the legendary barrel cellar of the winery in Dernau provides a deep insight into wine making.

The Culinary Fishing Camp begins on the first day with your own arrival by 12:00 p.m. and ends on the third day at 3:00 p.m. on your departure. These times usually apply from Friday to Sunday. Individual group appointments can also be arranged during the week.

Weatherproof clothing is advised, as we will be outdoors in all weathers. Anglers need a federal fishing license.

The stretch between Marienthal (Bunte Kuh) and Dernau will be fished. We recommend waders for fly fishermen.

For non-fishing wine and nature lovers, we offer guided hikes and Segway tours through the vineyards and forests of the picturesque Ahr Valley during the fishing sessions. Non-anglers can participate in the basic fly fishing and spinning workshops.

Spend the night comfortably with breakfast in the family-run hotel “Prümer Gang” within the old city wall of Ahrweiler – 5 minutes by car from the wild and romantic course of the Ahr, the winery and its vineyards. Depending on the date of the your visit and booked individual arrangements, other cozy, comfortable family-run hotels and guest houses are available in the area. For transport from and to hotel / fishing spots / winery / vineyards there is a separate bus on stand by at all times.

These trips are accompanied and staged by the internationally known “wine & food edutainer” and certified sport fisherman Roland Birr (oenologist).
